Our top 2017 Wedding Trends and why we love them!

Want the lowdown on the hottest 2017 wedding trends?  Then read on dear friend, we’ve got all the big trends you’ll be seeing in the New Year and beyond!

Greenery is going to be a massive trend for 2017.  It’s the Pantone Colour of the Year for 2017, but green has been a trend in weddings, and interior decor for the past year.  Think marble, black and green for a modern industrial feel, or copper/rose gold, white and green for a softer, more romantic look.  Cassidy from Thursday Bloom Co says “deep burgundy and Forrest green are going to be big in the coming wedding season! Especially associated with spacious and whimsical floral design.”

We love this trend because it’s fresh, clean, and it’s finally a trend us red-heads look good wearing!

Don’t like the idea of 300 of your ‘closest’ family and friends sharing your big day (and eating a drinking the equivalent of a deposit for a new home!)?  Then relax, intimate weddings are THE trend of 2017.   “I have definitely noticed a niche market for intimate weddings.” say celebrant, Colleen Smith.  “There’s less stress and, to me, it’s more meaningful as the really, really important people are the ones in attendance.”

We love this trend because couples can truly enjoy their wedding with the people they love the most.

Following on from the intimate trend, weddings are getting personal.   Simmy Tee from Storyteller Events believes there is “a real shift towards more laid back celebrations that are personal with a real emphasis on engaging guests (lawn games, dessert bars, grazing tables etc).”  Weddings are becoming more and more of a celebration than a formal event.  Loretta Westcott from I Do Bridal and Custom Services, says brides are increasingly choosing what they want, and not following tradition.

We love this trend because food! Okay, we also love this trend because it connects the guests at your wedding with each other.  Long gone are exhausting, boring weddings – well, we can’t guarantee that, but we can hope!

Grazing for days

Picnics, grazing tables, dessert bars, cake buffets, food trucks, pre-wedding treats and post-wedding feasts – 2017 is all about the food! Kathy from Chapter One Events found brides (and grooms) were looking for something special to indulge in, when getting ready.  2017 is all about celebrating by indulging in your favourite foods!

What isn’t to love about endless grazing?  This is a great way to bring your personal taste, literally, to your wedding.

Okay, so the Instagram version of this trend might not be for everyone, but sheer detailing is going to be huge in 2017. Don’t worry if you’re not comfortable wearing a see-through dress on your wedding day.  Think of a sheer, embroidered layer over your dress, a sheer back or sheer sleeves.

Mood Lighting/Feature Lighting

Creating the right atmosphere has always been important, but Chris at Lumin8 Events says more couples are choosing custom lighting packages to showcase their venues.  “Pin spot lighting directs light to where you need it most such as your tables and other stand-outs like a wedding cake.” says Chris.” Our Brides are loving the pin spots on their wedding cake, too.”

We love this trend because it’s dramatic! It can also direct the focus throughout the event on where the action is – dance floor, buffet, cake or speeches.

Feeling daunted by dealing with multiple suppliers on your wedding day? You’re not alone!  Couples are increasing engaging companies who can provide more than one service.  Richard from Richard Mockford Photography is the only photographer in Perth who can supply their own wedding car, but also says brides are increasingly looking for photography and videography packages. Chris at Lumin8 Events has also found an increase in brides looking to deal with fewer vendors.  “We’ve also noticed a lot of clients planning their wedding have asked if we do wedding decor also because the idea of working with a couple of vendors rather than a whole heap of vendors, really appeals to them.”

We love this trend because it can mean some great savings when you package different aspects of your wedding together!
